Decathlon, Ballymun, Dublin 11
Decathlon are one of the largest sports retail outlets in Europe. Conor Furey Consulting Engineers were appointed as the project Civil and Structural Engineers for the development of their €13m flagship new store and corporate headquarters located beside IKEA in Ballymun, Dublin 11 measuring 58,000 square feet. The project began at conception stage, through to planning permission, tender documentation, and inspections during construction stage. The project involved the overall structural design and stability of the building, water services drainage design to include a number of sustainable drainage features (SuDS), a flood risk assessment and a full suite of working structural drawings for contractor. The building was designed to achieve a BREEAM very good rating and features large spans to allow for flexibility of the internal layout, an outdoor covered football pitch, extensive permeable paving externally, and a large living wall on the north-west corner.
