Services offered by Furey Consulting Engineers

Structural Engineering

Furey Consulting Engineers have five structural engineers on the staff. One of the main services we provide is that of structural design. We focus on the framework of structures, and on designing those structures to withstand the stresses and pressures of their environment and remain safe, stable and secure throughout their use. Our office uses power 3D structural analysis software to model complex structures. We design a large range of structures from specialist foundation design, steel / concrete / timber structures, geotechnical engineering design and temporary works.

Civil Engineering

As Civil Engineers we are concerned with the planning, design, construction and maintenance of the built environment. This encompasses minor and major structures, ranging from drainage systems, houses, commercial buildings, roads and bridges to multi-story buildings and water and wastewater treatment facilities. We have a team of highly experienced engineers with widespread experience making no project too large or small for our office to take on.

Flood Risk and Drainage Design

Furey Consulting Engineers are responsible for designing drainage systems covering all aspects of Flood Risk and Drainage Design, including Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems Design (SuDS Design) and Flood Risk Assessment reports (FRAs) as well as designing and overseeing the installation of these systems.

We can provide Flood Risk Assessment and drainage designs required to support planning applications or a discharge of conditions. We are client focused, have the extensive experience and understanding required to take these schemes through to construction. We have the necessary skills to provide technically sound and considerate solutions that are also cost effective. We work closely with many Local Authorities and are aware of each of their specific requirements, especially when relating to SuDS design and compliance with their guidelines. Flood Risk Assessment within a Flood Zone C (low risk), can also be provided within tight timescales.

Our office uses a hydraulic modelling design package to model highly optimised drainage networks which can include complex SuDS features for considerate environmental design and savings to the client.

Assigned Certifier / BCMS Compliance

The Building Control Regulations apply to new buildings, extensions, material alterations and changes of use of buildings. They promote observance of the Building Regulations by supplementing powers of inspection and enforcement given to Building Control Authorities. A commencement notice, which is submitted under the Building Control Management System (BCMS) is required to give notice to Building Control Authorities of the erection of buildings, as may be specified in the regulations. Our office provides the service of Assigned Certifier for such projects and we can coordinate the collection of the necessary documentation to lodge valid BCMS notices and completion certificates. We have specific processes implemented in house that allow for the efficient collection of the documents required to submit this documentation to the Local Authorities in a timely manner. All design work carried out by our office can be backed up with the relevant ancillary certificates identified in the Code of Practice for Inspecting and Certifying Buildings and Works.

Surveys

Pre-purchase survey

A Pre-Purchase House Survey, sometimes called a ‘Structural Survey’ or ‘Building Survey’, is a thorough internal and external inspection of a property to determine its condition. The written survey report produced following the inspection describes the condition of the property under various separate headings. It summarises the overall condition of each building element and makes recommendations for the remedy of any defects. Sample surveys can be seen here:

Commercial surveys

A Dilapidation Survey is performed on behalf of the landlord or property manager to assess the condition of a property, whether it is commercial or private. This type of survey is often carried out to buildings prior to major groundworks in the viscinity of the property.

Dilapidation surveys

A Condition Survey is performed to show clearly the condition of the property at a specific point in time. Photos are taken and conditions are documented. If works are being carried out nearby, any changes as a result of the works can be determined.

Other Services

We also prepare various reports and documentation for legal purposes such as:

  • Certificates of Compliance
  • Certificates of Exemption with Planning Permission
  • Declarations of Identity
